Duke, state and U.S. flags were lowered Friday in tribute to two North Carolina-based soldiers killed this week in Afghanistan.

Gov. Roy Cooper ordered flags at state facilities to be lowered immediately to half-staff in tribute to Spc. Christopher Michael Harris of Jackson Springs, North Carolina, and Sgt. Jonathon Michael Hunter of Columbus, Indiana. Both men were killed Wednesday in Afghanistan. They were assigned to 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Bridge Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, based at Fort Bragg.

Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on Monday. By tradition, Duke follows the state's flag requests.
