Gender, Rural Electrification and the New Deal: One Student's Story+ Project on How Life Changed for Rural Families

What was the connection between gender and the electrification of the rural parts of America during the New Deal era? Story+, a summer program that merges humanities research with storytelling to produce dynamic public-facing projects, was just the place for Duke student Maddie Fowler. The global pandemic yielded the opportunity to do independent online research while exercising teamwork with her cohort in the Electric Circus Story+ team. The research Maddie did even led her to interview her own grandmother who lived through the electrification of the American South during her childhood.
