As part of a regular review process, Duke Human Resources has updated the online HR Policy Manual with changes to the following policies and procedures:
- Harassment & Discrimination Policy: The policy reference on the Human Resources website now points directly to the Office for Institutional Equity website with the source policy.
- Nepotism Policy: Policy updated to clarify the approval process for requesting a waiver of the policy and what types of relationships are covered by the policy. The policy also now describes the management plan required for any approved waivers.
- Eligibility for Benefits Policy: statement added to clarify that all staff, regardless of work schedule, are eligible to participate with their own contributions to the Duke Faculty and Staff Retirement Plan.
- Arrest or Conviction Policy: language added to indicate that a citation of arrest, as well as an arrest, requires notification of supervisor within seven calendar days.
- Recruitment and Hiring Policy: updated language based on current names for positions/titles and departments.
- Reference & Background Checks Policy: updated language to include education verification, when required.
- Hours Worked Policy: language added for consistency requiring hourly-paid staff to work within North Carolina and updated regarding the beginning and end of the “workday.”
- Health System Pay Structure & Processes Policy: language updated to reflect current practice of administering pay increases based on market competitiveness rather than merit.
Duke Human Resources is also conducting an audit of all policies and will include a “Last Reviewed” date as policies are confirmed or updated. Currently, the following policies have been confirmed without changes:
- Sick Leave Policy for University Staff
- Workplace Attire Policy
- Equal Employment Opportunity & Affirmative Action Policy
- Americans with Disabilities Act & Rehabilitation Act Policy
- Pay Administration Policy
