A leading scholar of criminal justice outcomes, evidence and constitutional rights, law professor Brandon Garrett explains how the Constitution protects due process – and why it’s fundamental to a fair justice system. In constitutional terms, Garrett says, due process is not about fairness in general; it’s specifically ensures individuals are treated fairly in various government actions and proceedings.

Garrett is L. Neil Williams, Jr. Professor of Law and director of the Wilson Center for Science and Justice at Duke Law, an initiative that brings together faculty and students to improve criminal justice outcomes.

This is part of “Legal Brief,” a series of short videos of Duke Law faculty explaining significant legal concepts shaping contemporary events.
