Last fall, Elizabeth Webb, a Visiting Assistant Professor in CDS, learned about tintype photography during a one-day workshop with photographer Harlan Campbell informing how light, metal and chemistry converge to create luminous portraits on metal plates. This spring, Campbell will teach Introduction to Tintype Photography as a two-day course Feb. 21-22.

“I've always wanted to learn some of these older school photography methods and never really had the opportunity to take a class or a workshop when I was in school many years ago,” Webb said. “And then the fact that that was being offered here within CDS was incredible.”

Courses vary in length and mode, some offered six-weeks or longer. For Webb, it was an opportunity to get back to what she loves most about being in a university setting.

“One of the things that appeals to me about higher ed is not just that I love to teach, but also that I really love to learn,” Webb said. “And so it's great that there are so many opportunities to take classes.”

To receive the 10% employee discount, Duke faculty and staff must register with a valid Duke email address and use the code DUKEFACSTAFF10 at checkout. Eligibility is verified during registration.
