Moneta Reappointed to New Five-Year Term as Vice President for Student Affairs
Larry Moneta, who has served as vice president for student affairs since 2001, has been reappointed to a fourth five-year term continuing through June 30, 2021, Provost Sally Kornbluth announced this week.
The reappointment followed a review of Moneta by a faculty-led committee chaired by Frederick Mayer, professor in the Sanford School of Public Policy. Kornbluth said Moneta had shown leadership in supporting students and providing the services they need to excel at Duke.
As vice president for student affairs, Moneta oversees services and programs that support undergraduate, graduate and professional students, including housing, dining, health care, career services, student activities, cultural centers and event and media services.
He played a leadership role in the multi-year renovation of the Bryan Center, the adjoining Plaza and the West Union Building, all of which were intended to upgrade meeting, social and dining spaces for students and student groups.
Kornbluth said, “I am very pleased that Larry Moneta has accepted this reappointment. Dr. Moneta has had a tremendously positive impact on all aspects of student life at Duke. He oversees a very complicated operation, yet always has the time and interest to discuss issues of importance to students and works tirelessly to provide a great student experience at Duke.”
In addition to serving as vice president, Moneta holds adjunct faculty appointments at Duke in the Sanford School of Public Policy’s Hart Leadership Program and at the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania, where he teaches in the Higher Education Executive Doctorate Program.
He has written numerous publications, presents frequently at professional meetings and serves on a number of corporate boards. He received his Ed.D. and B.S. from the University of Massachusetts and his M.Ed. from Springfield College.
