Duke staff and faculty gather during last year's Duke Appreciation for a free movie on East Campus.

Throughout May, Duke will pay tribute to about 37,000 University and Health System staff and faculty with a variety of events and discounts ranging from a free outdoor movie to deals at restaurants and Durham Bulls games.

Employees marking career milestones of 10, 15, 20, and 25 years or more of service will be recognized during invitation-only events as part of the annual Duke Appreciation celebration, which is organized by Duke Human Resources.

A highlight of Duke Appreciation is the movie, “Sing,” at 8 p.m. May 19 on the East Campus Quad. The computer-animated musical comedy features a koala bear endeavoring to save his failing theater. Sing will screen May 19 on East Campus.

Crystal Grimshaw, staff specialist for Special Events in Duke Health Development and Alumni Affairs, attended Duke Appreciation movie night last year with her two sons, Dylan and Logan, and a family friend, and they saw “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

“They all love Star Wars, and it was a fun night,” Grimshaw said. “It was awesome being together and seeing other colleagues out there, too.”

After 6 p.m. on May 19, parking will be available for movie night in all East Campus lots, including the Carr gated lot. Parking will also be available at Asbury United Methodist Church off West Markham Avenue, in the Duke Human Resources lot off Broad Street after 5 p.m., and at Smith Warehouse after 6 p.m.

In addition to movie night, staff and faculty can enjoy the following discounts:
